FAQs & Rain Policy

Important: Riding in heavy rain is neither fun nor safe. Please help us by keeping an eye on email when the skies are grey. We will always do our best to get out on the bikes, and we will always refund you or offer an alternative adventure in case of cancellation. But please make sure you remain reachable.

1. In case of rain, how do you decide whether to run the tour? How can you inform me?

We may cancel a tour if the previous day’s weather forecast (Japan Meteorological Agency) says the chance of heavy rain exceeds 60%. We will inform you by email by 7pm the evening before departure, so please be sure to check your mail the night before the tour. When in doubt, get in touch with us, or just head out to the rendezvous at the appointed time where an experienced guide will take care of you.

2. What if it’s raining on the day of the tour?

When meeting with unexpected showers, the tour guide will consult with the guests and make an informed decision on whether to proceed on bike, set out with umbrellas on foot, or cancel the tour and run for cover if the sky is falling. If inclement weather disrupts or alters the tour, you can also request a refund, if you prefer.

3. Do I need to make a reservation?

Yes! Prior reservation is required for all tours. We recommend booking at least four days in advance, especially in spring and autumn.

4. What should I bring?

Be sure to wear something comfortable that you can ride a bike in. We do offer step-throughs, but beautifully flowing fabrics often aren’t ideal. Please also check the local forecast and bring appropriate layers. The sun gets intense in the summer, so consider sunscreen during the hotter months. If you have anything bulky to carry, bring a knapsack or backpack. We provide one bottle of water per guest. Bikes have bottle holders and a small front pouch perfect for a cell phone, small purse, or light sweater. If you’re checking out of your accommodation, you can leave your luggage with us while you’re on the tour. We also offer optional helmets in a range of sizes at no additional cost.

5. Is there an age limit?

There is no set age limit, but all under 18s must be capable of riding and be accompanied by a parent or guardian. If your kids are under 145cm tall, or you’re traveling with small children, please consider a private family tour so we can tailor the adventure to your needs.

6. How fit should I be?

There are very few hills in Hiroshima, and we don’t ride up any of them. Our half day rides are pretty easy going with frequent stops to take in the sights. If you’re still worried about fitness, please get in touch so we can design a private course as easy as you like!

7. How and who should I contact if I need to cancel the tour?

We often have riders on a waiting list, so please send us an e-mail in advance if you need to cancel. A full refund is available to guests who cancel at least 24 hours in advance. This is not available for no-shows or guests who cancel with less than a 24 hour notice under most circumstances (see rain policy above).

9. Do I need to bring cash?

Your guide will take care of all tour-related costs during the tour. However, you may still want to have some yen on hand in case you need an extra bottle of water or find that perfect souvenir.

10. Should I tip my tour guide?

Tips are neither required nor expected, though they are always appreciated.

11. Do you ride in winter?

We sure do!
